Whats new | Removing channels | Video servers | Build your own TV channel | A tip: how to record a Video stream
Welcome to the Videowebgate

1. Whats new this month !

W finally changed the interface of the website live TV channels. The new design will enable us to easily modify channels, revive dead links etc..

Videowebgate is moving forward, we are currently working on Version 3.0 of our software as well as the different lite version. Next version will contain some more communication tool (SMS via the web for example).

We are constantly updating our streams and players. it is not a simple matter and thereffore takes time but it will not interrupt the functionality of the videowebgate site or software.

We have added a new channel for trailers of recent movies.

We have added more animations and changed the whole animation interface to work as VOD.

2. Removing Channels !

I am not sure I understand why, however we have received several requests to remove channels (mostely from Israel). Basically we have a disclaimer saying we will remove any stream or link from any site or broadcaster upon its request. Practically I have never heard of someone that runs a website or a TV that does not want more traffic.

3. Video server and web servers

The world cup has ended, and many people were frustrated with the problem of watching it online. So I will try to explain how it works:

I am not sure you realise that your broadband is broad only one way (Down stream.. i.e. the material that goes down to your computer from the internet) however the other way (Up stream) is quite narrow. therefore a single person can broadcast a single stream (live) in reasonable quality from his own computer to only 1-2 users.

In order to enable a live broadcast to many users there is a need for a server with a huge up stream bandwidth to distribute the stream.
This is a paid service (and not a cheap one).

If a single stream was encoded to suite 300kbps bandwidth therefore a thousand of streams like this means 300mbps (which is a very expensive service).

Basically a standard video server cannot manage more then 10,000 users.

This is the reason so many webserver that broadcasted the games to the web crashed.

Videowebgate website provided only links however hundred of thousends of people tried to reached the website at the same time to request a single file. The result might have been worst however in our case the server rejected the user instead of crashing (Service temporarily unavailable) however a press on the refresh button once or twice would have got you in.

Build your own TV channel

Building up a TV channel  is not a simple matter. Videowebgate is bound to release a special FREE software to enable anyone building his own TV channel online.
The software will include all the relevant codes and players (Flash / WMP / Real).
With our software you will be able to create a VOD interface (Such as the aAnimation or Trailers channels we have online).
Since we have a beta version. those of you that would like to create your own channel online that will be available for everyone on the Videowebgate are invited to write to me.
Of course this software may not be enough and there is a need for some knowledge. don't worry we will guide you through the process.

Tips - Recording video and playlists

There are plenty of video streams on the Videowebgate. some of them are live some of them are pre-recorded, and some are part of a play list.
To record a file which is archived we don't need much:
Right click on the link to the video and "save link target as" and we have the file on our pc. however a live stream or a playlist running is alittle more complicated:

Solution A: Videowebgate version 2.3 offers a bundled stream recorder called SDP. This software is capable of recording live streams and saving playlists.
Files with ASX extension are playlists. A playlist is exactly what it is: a list of video (or Audio) files meant to run one after the other. Having a playlist on your computer will enable you to know what every broadcast includes and where are these files located.
The play list files are text files and can be opened using the notepad.
an ASX file can include pre-recorded elements as well as live streams.
Therefore if you would like to place a link in your website to a specific video file or stream which is a part of a playlist. use the SDP on the videowebgate software. click the OPEN command and place the ASX file link. Once you hit the OK button you will be asked if you want to save the ASX file click yes and save it.
After saving the file open it with the Notepad and get the relevant stream link out of it.
This technique is especially good to remove advertistments from a video file.
If this ASX is a description of a stream located on MMS (Multimedia server) therefore it is a live stream. click on the GO button and the SDP will start recording the stream untill its you order it to stop.

Enjoy
